History

McCalmont Engineering was founded by three professionals with decades of experience in the solar industry. Tom & Darlene McCalmont previously co-founded Regrid Power, one of the leading solar integrators in California. Scott McCalmont served as VP of Engineering for Regrid Power and was the key engineering leader behind its PVwatch product, an online monitoring and control system that delivers realtime display of PV system performance either via a web browser or an iPhone and also enables remote control and operation of each solar system. Scott is a licensed Professional Engineer in California and is widely respected for his detailed knowledge of solar power plant design and Code compliance issues.

Over the last decade, Regrid Power developed a reputation for outstanding engineering, high quality installations, and delighted customers. By late 2008, the company was constructing 5 MW annually of residential and commercial solar power plants and had successfully designed and installed over 2,000 solar power plants, including many large and complex commercial solar systems.

The McCalmonts sold Regrid Power to Real Goods Solar in 2008. Regrid continues to deliver large numbers of solar power plants to the market as part of that public company. Following the sale, Tom, Scott, and Darlene founded McCalmont Engineering. They bring to McCalmont Engineering critically needed engineering experience and expertise, and crucial understanding of all the required considerations for proper solar power plant design.
